About the Show
HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER is a comedy about Ted (Josh Radnor) and how he fell in love. It all started when Ted's best friend, Marshall (Jason Segel), dropped the bombshell that he was going to propose to his long-time girlfriend, Lily (Alyson Hannigan), a kindergarten teacher. At that moment, Ted realized that he had better get a move on if he also hopes to find true love. Helping him in his quest is Barney (Neil Patrick Harris), a friend with endless, sometimes outrageous opinions, a penchant for suits and foolproof ways to pick up women. When Ted meets Robin (Cobie Smulders), he is sure it is love at first sight, but destiny may have something else in store. The series is narrated through flashbacks from the future.

Josh Radnor as Ted

Josh Radnor's television credits include "The Court," "Judging Amy," "Welcome to New York," "Miss Match," "ER," "Six Feet Under" and "Law & Order." He appeared on Broadway in "The Graduate" opposite Kathleen Turner. Off-Broadway he has appeared at the Vineyard Theater, the Manhattan Theater Club and the Blue Light Theater Company. Radnor can also be seen in the feature film "Not Another Teen Movie." Radnor was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, but currently lives in Los Angeles. He attended Kenyon College, where he won the Paul Newman Acting Trophy, and received his M.F.A. in acting from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. His birth date is July 29.

Jason Segel as Marshall

Jason Segel is best known to television audiences for his role as Nick Andopolis in the series "Freaks and Geeks." His additional television credits include recurring roles in CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION and "Undeclared." Among Segel's feature film credits are "Knocked Up," with Katherine Heigl and Paul Rudd, scheduled for release in August of next year, "Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny," "The Good Humor Man," "SLC Punk!" and "Slackers." He was born and raised in Los Angeles, where he continues to live today. Segel's birth date is January 18.

Alyson Hannigan as Lily

Alyson Hannigan is best known to television audiences as "Willow" in the series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," for which she won a Teen Choice Award and a Saturn Award. Her other television credits include "Touched by an Angel," "Picket Fences," "Veronica Mars," "King of the Hill," "That '70s Show," "Angel: The Series" and "Roseanne." Her feature film credits include "American Pie," "American Pie 2," for which she won a Teen Choice Award, "American Wedding," "Beyond the City Limits," "Dead Man on Campus" and "My Stepmother Is an Alien." Hannigan was born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Atlanta. Currently she lives in Los Angeles. Her birth date is March 24.

Neil Patrick Harris as Barney

A television staple since his Golden Globe-nominated role in "Doogie Howser, M.D.," Neil Patrick Harris has since established himself in all mediums. In the theater, he most recently starred in Arthur Miller's "All My Sons" at the Geffen Playhouse. Other recent theater credits include star turns in the London musical production of Jonathan Larson's "Tick, Tick…Boom," the Tony Award-winning musical "Assassins," "Cabaret" and "Proof." His additional television credits include the series "Stark Raving Mad," "Will & Grace," "NUMB3RS," the mini-series "Joan of Arc," and the television movie "The Christmas Blessing." Among Harris' feature film credits are "Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle," "Undercover Brother," "Starship Troopers," "The Next Big Thing" and "Clara's Heart," for which he received a Golden Globe nomination. Born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Harris now resides in Los Angeles. His birth date is June 15.

Cobie Smulders as Robin

Cobie Smulders' television credits include her lead role in "Veritas," and a recurring part in "The L Word," as well as appearances in "Andromeda," "Smallville," "Tru Calling," "Jeremiah" and "Special Unit 2." Smulders' theater credits include "Singing in the Rain," "Grease" and "Women and Wallace." She also appears in the upcoming feature film "The Long Weekend." Smulders grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia. She currently resides in Los Angeles. Her birth date is April 3.
